12 DAYS OF THANKSGIVING : Day 1: Thankful for Salvation
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
There are many things to be thankful for in life family, health, opportunities, and provision but none compare to this one truth: we have been saved.
Salvation is not just a moment in our past; it’s the foundation of everything we are today. It’s the reason we wake up with hope, the reason we can walk through pain with peace, and the reason we can face tomorrow with confidence.
When we say “I’m thankful for salvation,” we’re saying:
-
Thank You, Jesus, for rescuing me when I couldn’t rescue myself.
-
Thank You for rewriting my story with grace.
-
Thank You for choosing me before I even knew how to choose You.
The Gift We Could Never Earn
In a world where everything feels earned promotions, recognition, love, validation salvation stands apart. It cannot be bought, bargained for, or deserved. It’s pure gift.
Ephesians 2:8 reminds us that our salvation is “not of ourselves.” This means that even on our worst days, when we feel unworthy or distant, God’s grace remains unshaken. Salvation is secure not because of our performance, but because of His promise.
And that truth alone should fill our hearts with endless thanksgiving.
Saved From and Saved For
Gratitude grows deeper when we understand the full picture we were not only saved from sin, death, and separation, but also saved for a purpose: to walk in relationship with God and reflect His Kingdom on earth.
Salvation isn’t just about escaping hell; it’s about entering into a new kind of life.
A life marked by peace instead of striving, by grace instead of guilt, by love instead of fear.
So when we give thanks for salvation, we are thanking God for new identity, new citizenship, and new purpose.
Living Thankfully
Being thankful for salvation isn’t just about saying “thank You” in prayer; it’s about living a life that reflects our gratitude.
-
We show it in our worship not as duty, but as delight.
-
We show it in how we forgive others, just as we’ve been forgiven.
-
We show it in how we serve not to earn favor, but because we already have it.
Gratitude for salvation transforms our posture. It turns religion into relationship. It shifts our focus from what we lack to who we have Jesus.
Conclusion
In the Kingdom, we live from salvation not for it.
We walk in freedom, we rest in grace, and we shine as evidence of redemption.
So today, let your thanksgiving rise from that truth:
You are saved. You are loved. You are His.
