Worship as a Lifestyle, Not Just a Sunday Activity(Drawing closer to God)
Drawing Closer to God Series
For many believers, worship is something they associate with Sunday morning lifting hands, singing songs, and participating in church services. And while corporate worship is powerful and important, it’s only a piece of what worship truly is.
Worship isn’t confined to music, a building, or a time slot on the weekend. Worship is a way of life. It’s about the posture of your heart, your daily choices, and how you live before God every single day.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” — Romans 12:1 (NIV)
So how can we move from treating worship as an event to embracing it as a lifestyle?
1. What Is Worship, Really?
Worship comes from the Old English word “worth-ship,” meaning to give worth or value to something. When we worship God, we declare His supreme worth in our lives.
It’s not just singing worship is anything you do to honor God: praying, working with excellence, loving your neighbor, giving generously, or even resting with intention.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31
Worship is not limited to a song—it’s a lifestyle of glorifying God in everything.
2. The Problem With “Sunday-Only” Worship
When worship is only something we do on Sundays, we risk compartmentalizing our faith. We may worship God with our lips one day but live however we want the rest of the week. True worship transforms how we live, not just how we sing.
God is looking for worshippers who live in spirit and in truth every day.
“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” — Matthew 15:8
If worship doesn’t affect your lifestyle your decisions, habits, relationships, and mindset then it’s incomplete.
3. Living Sacrifice: Worship That Costs Something
Romans 12:1 gives us a clear picture of lifestyle worship: it’s offering ourselves as living sacrifices to God. That means:
-
Giving God your time, even when it’s inconvenient
-
Forgiving when it’s hard
-
Choosing honesty over comfort
-
Pursuing holiness even when the world says otherwise
-
Using your gifts for His glory, not your own fame
Worship that costs nothing often changes nothing. But when you give God your best, your life becomes a fragrant offering to Him.
4. Everyday Worship Looks Like…
Let’s break it down practically. Here are some ways to live a lifestyle of worship:
-
Starting your day in prayer and thanksgiving
-
Serving others with joy
-
Turning your work into an offering by doing it with excellence
-
Choosing kindness in moments of frustration
-
Listening for God’s voice throughout your day
-
Giving generously as an act of surrender and faith
-
Singing worship music as you cook, clean, or drive
-
Keeping your heart in alignment with God’s Word
Your ordinary moments become extraordinary when they are lived in devotion to God.
5. Worship Is About Relationship
At the heart of lifestyle worship is relationship. God doesn’t want a performance He wants your presence.
When you worship Him daily, you invite His presence into every part of your life. You become more aware of His nearness, His guidance, and His peace.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8
True worship is fueled not by obligation, but by love.
6. Breaking the Divide Between Sacred and Secular
For many of us, life is divided between what feels “spiritual” (church, Bible reading, prayer) and what feels “secular” (work, errands, conversations, chores). But in God's eyes, all of life can be sacred if lived with the right heart.
There’s no part of your life too small or too mundane to offer as worship.
Jesus was a carpenter before His ministry and yet, even that season honored the Father.
7. Corporate Worship Still Matters
While we’re talking about lifestyle worship, it’s worth noting that gathering with other believers in worship is still vital. It uplifts our faith, encourages unity, and gives us space to express our love for God together.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” — Psalm 150:6
But the power of Sunday worship multiplies when it’s flowing out of Monday-to-Saturday devotion.
Final Thoughts
Worship isn’t just what you do it’s who you are. You were created to worship, not just for a moment, but with your entire life. When we shift our mindset and begin to honor God in everything we do, we draw closer to Him in ways that are real, daily, and transformational.
Let worship be more than a song let it be the way you live.
